Middletown Straw Poll Coverage – Jan. 26th
The open Middletown Straw Poll which was held at 7PM on Sun. the 26th in Middletown had a much lower turnout than the previous night’s GOP straw poll. Like the GOP straw poll the place was full of Ron Paul supporters.
The vote counting method seemed a bit confusing because all weren’t aware this was an instant run-off vote. In fact, had Ron Paul not won a good portion of his voters would have transferred their votes to Thomas Jefferson according to their ballots.
The first round results broke down like this:
Ron Paul 21
Hillary Clinton 15
Barack Obama 10
John McCain 1
Mitt Romney 1
The post run-off final tally was:
Ron Paul 23
Hillary Clinton 21
It didn’t occur to me previously, but I just realized that despite having a speaker Mike Huckabee received no votes. Strange indeed. This wasn’t a fluke of the announcement, there were really no ballots in the pile. Did the Huckabee speaker vote for someone else or just not vote?

Forget Hillary, Ron Paul runs advertising
I received my copy of the Reminder this morning and to my surprise I see the first presidential campaign ad I’ve ever seen in it. See for yourself.
Interestingly I probably never would have noticed had it not been in a prime location, right below the first speak out section.
GOP Straw Poll Coverage – Jan. 25th
The GOP straw poll had a great turnout for it’s first year with 388 votes cast with hall and online votes combined. The final combined results were as follows:
Romney 136
McCain 104
Paul 96
Guiliani 34
Huckabee 9
Thompson 2
Hunter 1
The Ron Paul supporters were out in force and even brought a hot air balloon. Unfortunately the wind put an end to the balloon earlier than was hoped. Many of the RP supporters expressed disappointment from not knowing that online voting was possible. They said that if they only knew their families at home could have voted it would have been a lock. While that may be true the GOP felt that online voting capability was widely known.
From: The Everyday Republican The inside story of the Straw Poll was, of course, the balloting. The Romney campaign clearly pushed the “online balloting” portion of the event in their communications with supporters, as the online results showed: Giuliani 10, Huckabee 1, McCain 26, Paul 21, and 70 for Romney. In the hall, the results were: Giuliani 24, Huckabee 8, McCain 78, Paul 75, and Romney 66.
I had the good fortune to meet John of Right of the Middle who was also covering the straw poll.
If you missed it this is your lucky day. Now you can live the event through my video.
