What if… so called conservatives were consistent?

One of my biggest gripes about establishment Republicans, of which I am one, especially at the national level is the way they knowingly or not go about the business of defending liberty and free markets in the most inconsistent ways. They’ll berate pork while spending it and denounce censorship while censoring. They’ll resort to underhanded political tactics while they are employing them.

Liberty can not be defended by inconsistent men who chain their brothers. Free markets can not be championed by those who themselves are taking double handed scoops of the capital lifeblood directly from the markets when they see fit.

The Republican party needs consistency and must have champions of principle, not politics. No battle is worth winning if sacrificing your kingdom is the cost. For Republicans our principles are our kingdom. I will not sacrifice my kingdom and I will not stand for so called Republican leaders who are willing to do so.

I am a Republican but the established party is not mine. I am a Republican of principle, not politics. My party members are my neighbors both local and not so. We stand together fighting against the tyranny which has gripped this nation in the name of Republicans and Democrats.

I warn you wobbly men who feign greatness.  Greater men than you have been punished for less.

9 years our forefathers endured in the face of gross abuse by their government. For 9 years they resisted, they protested and organized but the government with all it’s wobbly men did not take heed. After 9 years our forefathers shed wobbly blood on free soil and ended their torment.

How many years will we toil and suffer under the heel of our government and it’s great wobbly men? Be afraid ye wobbly men.

It is time for each of us, the many, the least to stand up and follow in the footsteps of our forefathers. Today we protest, we complain. Tomorrow we organize. And then…

Katz loose in the general assembly?

Joshua Katz has announced his intention to run for the 23rd district general assembly seat.

While this news may be a bit irrelevant on a normal day, it interests me because I happen to know Mr. Katz. One October day, while distributing free pumpkins to the community on the New Haven Green, we had the opportunity to exchange political thought at some length. He’d make a great Republican.

Don’t know who Josh Katz is? Refer to this video from the Middletown Straw Poll:

Katz is running as a Libertarian against incumbent Republican Marilyn Giuliano.

From his website:

I am running for the state legislature because of my passionate belief in the principles on which this country was founded – peace, freedom, and liberty. I see all three of these principles as being under attack at present. In Hartford, I will fight to bring Connecticut’s National Guard home for the protection of the state, to eliminate the income tax and let you keep more of your hard-earned money, to protect civil liberties from the ever-growing reach of the government, and for a woman’s right to choose.
I am a teacher, and seeing what was happening in the world around me, I resolved that I would not let it be said that I did nothing to protect the world my students would inherit. I will do my part to ensure that they are not saddled with debt, and that they do not come of age in a country with an overpowerful government.

Check out his site for more.

Middletown Straw Poll Coverage – Jan. 26th

...............

The open Middletown Straw Poll which was held at 7PM on Sun. the 26th in Middletown had a much lower turnout than the previous night’s GOP straw poll. Like the GOP straw poll the place was full of Ron Paul supporters.

The vote counting method seemed a bit confusing because all weren’t aware this was an instant run-off vote. In fact, had Ron Paul not won a good portion of his voters would have transferred their votes to Thomas Jefferson according to their ballots.

The first round results broke down like this:

Ron Paul 21
Hillary Clinton 15
Barack Obama 10
John McCain 1
Mitt Romney 1

The post run-off final tally was:

Ron Paul 23
Hillary Clinton 21

It didn’t occur to me previously, but I just realized that despite having a speaker Mike Huckabee received no votes. Strange indeed. This wasn’t a fluke of the announcement, there were really no ballots in the pile. Did the Huckabee speaker vote for someone else or just not vote?

Forget Hillary, Ron Paul runs advertising

...

I received my copy of the Reminder this morning and to my surprise I see the first presidential campaign ad I’ve ever seen in it.  See for yourself.

Interestingly I probably never would have noticed had it not been in a prime location, right below the first speak out section.
