EHRTC chose not to take Constitutional Stand

In response to the blatant Constitutional violation of Ted Kennedy in accepting a Knighthood while serving in the United States Senate I introduced a resolution demanding his resignation within 14 days at tonight’s East Hartford Republican Town Committee meeting.

Sadly, a vast majority did not feel as I did that it was important to make a stand for the United Stated Constitution on this issue.

Text of the proposed resolution:

Whereas, Article I, Section 9 of the United States Constitution states “No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.”; and

Whereas, On March 4th 2009 Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Gordon Brown announced sitting Senator Edward Moore Kennedy, also known as Ted Kennedy, was given an honorary knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II entitling him to be known as Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire; and

Whereas, On March 4th 2009 Senator Edward Moore Kennedy publicly acknowledged his acceptance of an honorary knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II entitling him to be known as Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire; and

Whereas, The United States Congress passed no resolution to permit Senator Edward Moore Kennedy to receive a title of any kind whatever from Queen Elizabeth II; and

Whereas, The above mentioned facts evidence a willful violation by Senator Edward Moore Kennedy of the United States Constitution and his oath of office to defend the United Stated Constitution; Now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the East Hartford Republican Town Committee, That the East Hartford Republicans –

(1) Demand Senator Edward Moore Kennedy resign from the United States Senate within 14 days.

(2) Demand the United States Senate initiate proceedings for removal of Senator Edward Moore Kennedy upon failure to resign within 14 days.

We must stand on the Constitution or we will find ourselves being stood on.

Senator LeBeau & Rep. Genga – CENSURED

Last night the East Hartford Republican Town Committee took decisive action on the abusive participation in the Citizens Election Program by incumbents Genga and LeBeau during their unopposed races.

The Republicans were unanimous in a call for the return of CEP funds and an apology to the taxpayers.

From the press release:

East hartford, ct, november 11, 2008: East Hartford Republicans have censured State Rep. Henry Genga and State Senator Gary LeBeau for exploiting the Citizens Election Program, which was intended to foster political competition, and betraying taxpayer trust by exploiting taxpayer dollars in their unopposed reelection bids and have called on Genga and LeBeau to return all Citizen Election Program funds received. Jon Searles, Chairman of the EHRTC 6TH District, said “This is the opposite of what the CEP was intended to accomplish. These two believe that when faced with a choice of self promotion or responsible stewardship of our tax dollars the former is always the better choice. It put a sour taste in my mouth to see them wasting taxpayer dollars before the election was even over. I’d like to see them give that money back.”
