My Prediction Proves True – New Adult Business Coming

I warned the P&Z commission months ago at the public hearing when I presented my legally defensible plan to create an adult zone that their plan to open all I3 zones in town would bring more businesses. They didn’t heed my warning and it has come to pass.

The Gazette has a story on the enforcement efforts of Bonnie Nichols in upholding the ordinances passed by the town council. In it is hidden the more important story. A new Adult Video/Book store is quietly moving into a now defunct beauty supply store at 2 Tolland Street. While an adult video/book store is certainly not a strip club it will be a matter of time, likely only until the ordinance battle is completed, until they follow.

I put together some secondary effects buffer information for this property. There are 212 properties within the 1000 foot secondary effects buffer of this new business.  Here is a breakdown of these properties:

76 Single Family
61 Multi Family
38 Commercial
23 Commercial/Apartments
6 Vacant
8 Unknown

A conservative estimate would be 311 households in this buffer zone with the actual number likely more. That’s 311 families who, because of the opening of I-3 to permitted adult use, will have no idea that they are about to have  an new Adult Establishment less than 1/4 mile from their front door until it opens.
