A Novel Idea

According to a July RSC report 2007 capital gains revenues were about 127 billion dollars.

How about instead of giving hundreds of billions of dollars to banks in a  hope that they’ll stay solvent and lend capital we eliminate the capital gains tax for the next year. It makes a lot more sense to allow persons like myself and my neighbors to invest what savings we have, also known as capital,  in the economy without the government taking 10, 15, 20% or more of what growth we manage to earn.

Better yet, think of how much money people like Warren Buffet and the rest of the richest men in the world will unleash into the market when they are able to make a decent return free from the tax burden instead of investing in 1% government bailout bonds to dodge taxes.

Nope…. makes too much sense.

Finally someone who agrees with my assessment of Ms. Kneip. Unfortunately agreeing with her and being a Republican is to make yourself a pariah.
The Republicans in East Hartford, as a group are ineffectual, impotent and sometimes malicious……but I believe this is due to years of being the minority party. You can only be second for just so long before it wears on you.
There is no doubt Ms. Kneip was, and could be again a strong Mayor…
Maybe, just maybe …we need her again and perhaps this economic crisis that is thrust upon us is just the nudge she will need.
I believe that Mayor Currey will be unable to stem the tide of rising costs and diminished returns to the town. We will see a large amount of unemployed residents and the foreclosure rates will skyrocket.
The value of the Grand List will plummet.
We are in for a very painful time in the next few years.
I, for one am weighing my options on staying here or moving to so-called greener(and warmer) pastures
