Gazette in jeopardy, local buyout possible.

As you may have read in the Courant or elsewhere the Journal Register Company has come on hard times and has decided to sell or close most of the Connecticut papers it owns, including the East Hartford Gazette.

Although the full details from the JRC are sketchy, probably because of it’s publicly traded status, there is word that a local effort exists to buy the Gazette from the JRC. Unfortunately this attempt may be met with scant success because of a lack of cooperation on the part of the JRC.

Potential buyers of the Bristol Press have been turned away due to a lack of cooperation in the sale process on JRC’s part according to sources in Bristol according to Bristol News.

The paper could close as soon as January 16th if not sold. It would be a shame to see one of our local papers shuttered after 123 years in print.

It would be interesting to be a newspaper owner. If the buyer(s) need investors to make the sale go off give me a shout. I’d probably sign on.
